Thanksgiving is a very well-known particularly American
and Canadian holiday. The day is basically related with family reunion,
watching American football, and having tons of food. It doesn’t have a specific
date, as it is celebrated the second Monday of November in Canada, and the
fourth Thursday of November in the United States.
It is based on old English tradition when families
thanked God after the Harvest. In America, as I mentioned before, it is
celebrated the fourth Thursday of November, although the real harvest time was
way earlier. It was normally celebrated by English protestant believers, but it
was also celebrated by catholic people. It’s a tradition here to, in
thanksgiving dinner, eat a turkey, have a lot of beer, and spend the day with
the family watching American Football, and it has become such a big tradition
in America that even atheist families celebrate it as a family reunion.
